1       Additional functions

The PST offers the following further functions used to process Ethernet participants:

- Change the device name

Provided the device supports this function, using the menu entry Module -> Assign device names you can assign a new device name to the device.

The device name must be specified according to DNS conventions; in other words:

·Restricted to a total of 240 characters (letters, digits, dash or period)

·Restrictions regarding parts of the name within the device name; in other words, a string between two periods must not exceed a maximum of 63 characters.

·No special characters such as umlauts (ä, ö etc.), brackets, underscore, slash, blank etc. The dash is the only permitted special character.

·The device name must not begin or end with the "-" character.

·The device name must not have the structure n.n.n.n (n = 0...999).

·The device name must not begin with the string "port-xyz-" (x, y, z = 0...9).

Example:

[Name from the short ID].[Name of the IO system]

The device name must be unique in the Ethernet subnet (PROFINET IO system).

- Reset to factory settings

Provided the device supports this function, using the menu entry Module -> Reset you can reset the device to the factory settings. Refer to the documentation for the respective module for the precise results of this function.

- Signaling

Provided the device supports this function, using the menu entry Module -> Flash you can control the signaling on the device. This makes it easier, for example, to find the position. Refer to the documentation for the respective module for the precise results of this function.

2    Special Notes

CP443-1EX40 V1

Type CP443-1EX40 V1 modules always return 0.0.0.0 as the router address, even if a different address has been configured. In the Primary Setup Tool, after the Search Network, the option “Use router” under “Ind. Ethernet interface” will always be deactivated for this type of module.

CP1512

When operating the PST via a CP1512, which is connected via a PCI CardBus controller, it can sometimes be the case that the occasional DLC or DCP log gets lost.

This can result in

-       a module not being displayed in the list of found participants. In this case, repeat the Search.

-       when searching the message “The module is not available“ appears. Confirm the message. The module is displayed in the list. It is possible to load parameters on this module.

-       when loading the parameters on the module, the message “The module is not available“ appears. In this case, check to see if the parameters have been transferred successfully by launching the Search Network. If necessary, repeat the loading process.

SCALANCE W 744W788 V1.0.3

You must use the PST V2.0 to assign addresses to a SCALANCE W 744W788 V1.0.3 .

3    Support

The following describes some of the problems that could occur when using the PST.

The network card is not visible in the PST

If the respective network card is not displayed under the menu command Settings -> Network Adapter, "no Ethernet card" is displayed or there´s no display at all, this could be for the following reasons:

-       the respective network card is not inserted / installed or there is no network card inserted / installed;

-       the network card(s) has / have been deactivated by the Control Panel or in the BIOS;

-       neither the DCP nor the DLC log have been activated for the respective network card;

-       the TCP/IP log has been deactivated for the network card.

No module found or existing module is not visible

The existing modules / components are searched for on the network via a broadcast service.

This then reports with its MAC address.

The broadcast service will be interrupted after 3 telegram repeats and 10 seconds response time.

Possible causes of error:

-       the respective module / component does not meet the requirements for communication with the PST;

-       the DLC log is not installed. Chapter 5 describes the installation of the DLC log.

-       the occupancy rate of the network is too high: repeat the menu command Network -> Browse;

Module / component is not visible after loading

Depending on the type of module up to one minute can pass before the module responds after loading.

Remedy: Via the menu command Network -> Browse perform a new display of the modules / components

Message “No station has been detected in the network”

If, after performing the menu command Network -> Browse, the above message is issued even though modules that have a previously set MAC address are available in the network, this could be for the following reasons:

-       an incorrect network card has been selected.

-       one of the logs for the chosen card have been deactivated.

-       the DLC log is not installed. Chapter 5 describes the installation of the DLC log.

Error message “Supported interfaces: 4”

If, when calling up the menu command Settings -> Network Adapter the above error message is issued, this could be for the following reasons:

-       More network cards are registered via the Control Panel of your PC than are actually available in your PC: Only the network cards currently existing in your PC must be registered in the Control Panel.

Error message “An error has occurred in the underlaid driver”

If, when calling up the menu command Network -> Browse the above error message is issued, this could be for the following reasons:

-       an incorrect version of the DCP or DLC driver is installed.

Please contact support.

Error message “An unexpected error has occurred. Please repeat function.”

If, when calling up the menu command Module -> Load the above error message is issued, this could be for the following reasons:

-       the network card that you have selected in your PC has been deactivated by the Control Panel or in the BIOS;

-       the module in question is still in run-up.

Web browser doesn´t display the configuration page of the INC.

If, when performing the menu command Module -> Start INC browser in the browser the page “This page cannot be displayed” appears, this could be for the following reasons:

-       none of the network cards in the PC is located in the same subnetwork as the INC.

Remedy: Set the subnetwork screen of your network card to the subnetwork of the INC or use a router to connect the two subnetworks.

Incorrect router address displayed

It can be the case that with the Ethernet interface parameters a different router address is displayed than the one configured. This is the case if the module is currently using a different router to the one configured.

Cancel set-up

When canceling set-up any already copied files remain in the installation directory. It is recommended that you run through the set-up completely and then uninstall the PST, if necessary, via the entry “Primary Setup Tool” under the Control Panel -> Software”.

Downgrading the PST V3.2 to the PST V2.0

  1. Uninstall the PST V3.2
  2. Delete the registry key “PST” under “HKey_Current_User\Software\Siemens\”
  3. Install the PST V2.0
